Don’t you hate writing a bio about yourself? I like this thing and these things and blah blah blah..
So I’ll tell you about my family. I live with my husband John and my manx cat Stumpy. I’d love to live with more than one cat, but Stump hates other cats so much that we don’t do that to her.
I grew up in Ohio with my parents and sister and brother. I got my first camera when I was 10 years old, but I didn’t really want to be a photographer then. I wanted to animate for Disney. I went to school for fine art. I know, you’re thinking “.. and?” But what that means for you is that I’m good at visualizing how your photos should look and what will make them better. A little shift to the right to take a tree out of the background or telling a story with composition, the art background makes your portraits better.
After deciding that Disney wasn’t the way I wanted to go, I went to school for Early Childhood Education so that I could work in preschool. I ADORE small children. So this means that not only do I enjoy being with your daughters, but I’m also educated on what’s developmentally appropriate for her age and how to run a session. I speak TO her like a person, and not at her. I read her and I know when she’s done for the day. There are no crying princesses at my shoots.
I tell my clients “I’m a six-foot redhead, you can’t miss me.” I may be tall, but I’m quiet. I watch the world with wondering eyes. In my spare time, I birdwatch, I take nature photos, I watch movies, I read with my cat.
Yummy: Pasta, chocolate, green bananas, strawberries
Favorite stone: Amber
I want to visit: Japan
Yuck: Coffee, wine, beer, coconut
My husband and I have been together for 15 years, but married for just 3. You know that saying ‘opposites attract’? That’s us. The only things we have in common is that we’re both quiet and we enjoy books. That’s actually how I met him, by borrowing his books.
Stumpy the cat is 12 or 13 years old. She showed up at our back porch one day demanding food. Over the course of a few months, she lost her fear of us and invited herself in. She comes when she’s called, she chats with us trotting about the house, she enjoys tuna and pringles, but hates chicken. Named Stumpy because she’s a Manx breed with just 3 inches of a stumpy little tail that she waves around.
A life lived in fear is a life half lived.
When I was little, my sister and I used to spend hours outside in our own magical little world. Unicorns and princesses, fairies and dragons.. everything was magical. As an adult, I still hold that special magic close. I love books and movies about fantasy, and I look to create that same feeling in my photography.
Featured in national publications like Professional Photographers Magazine, Model Life Magazine, and Canon Online Learning, and with seven year of creating magical portraits as experience, I certainly have developed my own style.
